KP Youth Business Plan Competition 2021 (KPYBPC)

Institutions globally are focusing on ways and means to develop businesses and an entrepreneurial culture. Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) are regarded the world over as being job creators of the future and battling more and more with large corporations which are retrenching staff, and it has fallen to the SMME sector to create employment. Consequently, governments and institutions are focusing increasingly on ensuring that entrepreneurial growth takes place. One method used almost universally is business plan competitions which are aimed at stimulating interest in business and getting people with the skills to start their own businesses. There are many of these competitions in the industry but they will only succeed if the idea is evaluated positively. If it is not, the initiative might not be able to attract funding or gain access to potential suppliers and customers.

National Influencers aims to motivate individuals to start-up businesses and projects and to connect them with existing businesses that might provide further business support in the process of realizing the projects. For this purpose National Influencers in collaboration with Institute of Management Studies, University of Peshawar and The Natives – TN has organized “KP Youth Business Plan Competition 2021”. It was a three day program at Bara Gali Campus, University of Peshawar from 22nd October to 24th October 2021. 113 young belonging from different universities including Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Women University, University of Peshawar, Khyber Medical University, Abdul Wali Khan University, Khyber Law College University of Engineering Technology, Islamia College and University Peshawar, College of Home Economics, Agriculture University Peshawar and organizations attended the event in which 12 groups took part in the competition. An equal opportunity was provided to all the youth across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to come up with their business plan and compete in the Business Plan Competition. Business plans were judged by Dr. Junaid (Ph.D in Entrepreneurship), Dr. Shakeel a business man and e-commerce expert, Hashim Khan Lecturer at IMS, Arshad Hussain former Deputy Director Directorate of Youth Affairs and Atif Shahzad CEO Makkah Agency. The judging process was conducted openly. Contestants were given 10 to 15 minutes to present their ideas. This was beneficial for the participants as it provided them with the opportunity to elaborate on and sell their business ideas. This was also an opportunity for the judges to examine the drive and passion these entrepreneurs have. The participants in the competition were acknowledged for their efforts. Dr. Junaid, Dr. Shakeel, Atif Shahzad and Imran Inam also delivered session on entrepreneurship and challenges faced by business and industry sector and possible solutions.

The chief guest of the event was Abdul Karim Khan Torhdher Minister for commerce and trade rewarded and recognized all the participants for their time put into the competition by distributing certificates of participation. And the top three winners Holistic Rehabilitation Center, Haq Services and Nayya Glameria Mobile Beauty Saloon were awarded with Cash prizes as a startup fund for the implementation of their proposed business plan. The judges were awarded with shields at the end of the business plan competition.

The main theme of the Holistic Rehabilitation Services private limited was to provide the Digital Healthcare Rehabilitation Service’s Solution.  Holistic Rehabilitation Team is consists of a General Physician, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists who providing facilities of Online Therapies, Clinical Therapies, Home Therapies, and Therapeutic Devices.

The idea of HAQ Services (SMC-PRIVATE) Limited, the first runner up was to provide a one-stop service for the families who lose their loved ones. They are offering a total of 8 services that are all outsourced. Amongst these services are the arrangements for the Kafan : کفن (winding sheets )Janaza Services (funeral services) the ambulance to transfer the body, coffin, the communication with the graveyard and all services related to burying, food and catering services.

Naiyah’s Gleameriah was the second runner up that win the startup grant. As there are many salons operating at the moment, but majority of them are inaccessible for many ladies. There are females who can’t go out for salons visit, there are some can’t wait for their turns at the saloons and few avoid travelling and facing rush. Naiyah’s Gleameriah will be a mobile salon, centered in Peshawar and to provide beauty care services to every woman out there. So the women who can’t go out, avoids rush etc. can save their time and energy and avail all the desired services at their doorstep. The mobile Salons will offer basic needed services too which are required by every girl. This Saloon aim to reach every girl and provide luxury services to every female who are deprived of it which be beneficial for both the clients and the company itself.

KP Youth Business Plan Competition 2021

National Influencers in collaboration with Institute of Management Studies, University of Peshawar (IMS) & The Natives organized a KP Youth Business Plan Competition 2021 (KPYBPC) to provide an opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship through the development and presentation of a business plan. Participants in the competition will have an opportunity to define their ideas in commercial terms and to compete for substantial cash prizes. This business plan competition is open to all the students of under-graduate classes and students pursuing higher courses. In Business Plan Competition students learn key business concepts and skills while developing a blueprint strategy to launch a new product or service. This competition helps young people build skills, unlock creativity, and discover pathways to opportunities in small and large businesses. The competition is designed to give young entrepreneurs a real-world experience to fine-tune their business plans and elevator pitches to receive funding and maximize the commercialization of their products. The event will bring across more than 20 teams from all over the province with a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 3 participants in each team.
Topics:
In preparing a business plan, teams should answer the following questions based on research and data, not opinions:
Name of the proposed business?
What is the product or service?
What need does it address?
Who is the primary market for the
venture and what can you say about the size and scope of that market?
What are the compelling attributes that differentiate your product or service from others that address the same need?
How will your business make money?
How much startup capital do you need and what are your revenue projections?
Format:
Each team would be given a chance to showcase their business plan and present their idea in 8-10 minutes.
Team:
A group of individuals may pitch. A team can have minimum of 2 to maximum of 3 students. Teams that consisted of both graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to participate. Each team will be limited to one entry in the competition. Individuals can only be members of one team.
Judging Criteria:
The judges will consider: the innovation of the product, technology or service; product-market fit; the scalability of the business model; the total impact (including sales, social value, impact on users, partners, etc.); and the qualities of the entrepreneur or entrepreneurial team – their level of talent, diversity, and qualities which are value additive to the company.
Eligibility:
The competition draws entries from undergraduate and graduate applicants from any University/ Institute/ Organization. The proposed business plans must be the original work of the applicant(s). There can be more than one team from one institute / University / organization.
Awards and Prizes:
All teams will be present for the entirety of the round and will be able to watch the other participant’s business plans. After all plans are complete, there will be a short break for judging. TOP 3 teams with the highest scores will be declared the winners. Prizes will be in the form of cross cheque.
